After a two year hiatus, the Girl Scouts at St. Luke planted our vegetable garden again in August 2024 that included potatoes, mustard, turnip and collard greens, kale, peppers, cauliflower, cabbage, onions, carrots, herbs, zucchini and tomatoes. Troop Leaders volunteered to water during the weekdays and the Girl Scouts came out on Saturdays and Sundays.
In October, our garden survived Hurricane Milton. During the 7th week of the garden, we made our first crop of mustard greens just in time for Thanksgiving! During week 10 of the garden, our collard and mustard greens have matured and ready for cropping.
Although some of our vegetables didn’t make it, overall, we had a good cropping. The girls and volunteers were able to take vegetables home, shared with family and friends and enjoyed eating at troop meetings. We celebrated Girl Scout Sunday in March 2025, girls and their families were invited to worship service and all in attendance were served lunch compliments of the Girl Scouts featuring vegetables from our garden.
We ended the year by clearing out the garden.
