The focus of my Gold Award is increasing children’s literacy. I am trying to make getting a book easy and accessible for children of all ages. Children are not always able to get books for a variety of reasons. They may be not live near a library or their school lacks to resources to provide them books. Additionally, some parents may not be able to afford books. My gold award project helps to provide kids with accessibility to books they need without the worrying about
having a library card and/or purchasing a book. My project is building a free little library. With this library kids will be able to grab a book and read for however long they want even if it is just twenty minutes. Twenty minutes a day they will have discovered 1.8 million words per year. This will help expose them to new words which could help improve reading skills on tests. Reading is a fundamental that we all should be able to learn. This fundamental will be helpful throughout
their entire lives.
